Enoshima Olympic Week Day 3 – Final day
Makino and Takahashi kept winning, however, they had 1 OCS, which allows Seki /Miyai to get 1st. Keiko Miyagawa and Momoko Tada sailed well today with three 1sts. Keiko is ex-470 sailor, and Momoko is a Radial sailor. Keiko is not tall, light weight, but well experienced SS class (Japanese national skiff class) champion. She enjoyed light wind condition today.
470s and Lasers were sent out after 12:30, and only 1 race today. The north wind was only 5kt when 49er/FX were sailing, and by the time 470s were out, it was built to 10-12kt. Matsunaga and Yugo Yoshida sailed well to lead from the 1st mark to the finish. They did not miss the major shift during the 2nd upwind leg, and extended their lead to double distance. Mrs. Ai Yoshida was 2nd for the 1st round, but she caught weed during the down wind leg, and then later they missed the shift as well. That cost them to drop to 4th overall.
Kazuto Doi and Imamura caught the big shift to come back to 2nd and they also overtook Ai to finish 3rd overall. Ichino and his crew Junpei managed to maintain 2nd overall.
Manami Doi finished 3rd today, but she already had enough lead to Kitamura. She was 3rd in Medemblik, the EURO regatta. ‘In Medemblik, number of boats are not so many, but top sailors were there to have good quality racing with small numbers. I hope one day Enoshima Olympic Week become like that, especially, we have Tokyo 2020 in front of us. Maybe, Olympic Week shift to Tokyo venue, so that we have more overseas entry in the future, who knows?’, Manami expressed her future dream. ‘if all top sailors come to Japan, young sailors who have no chance to travel to overseas can gain their experience at home. So, I just hope it happens.
Lee Jinwan enjoyed his last race in Japan as well to finish 1st. So, he won all races to win the Laser class. Very happy, and more confidence now. Laser class was also the Kanto Area Championship, and this title went to Hirose, the 1st Japanese competitror.
4.7 had 20 entries, and it was amazing to see the improvement of this class as 2014 World Championship will be in Karatsu in August. Sugiura won this regatta, and showed that he has done lots of traiing. 18 more sailors will join him in August, and let’s hope that 2 more months, give them more improvement.
Japan Anti Doping Agency (JADA) came today with their PLAY TRUE BUS to Enoshima. After racing, few people were called for the doping test. This bus has a special space for waiting, and little toilet room with no door. All built for the control testing. It is very convenient to have the complete set as a caravan bus.
Everyone enjoyed the 3 days regatta, and took picture altogether. Of course, we are Japanese! Come and join us next year.
